Rafael Dos Anjos pulls out of UFC 196 vs McGregor

So the super fight that could catapult Conor McGregor to legend status in MMA will be put on hold. According to multiple sources, including MMAFighting.com, which is where I heard the news. Rafael Dos Anjos is pulling out of the main event due to a broken foot that occurred late last week.

Before you even ask…we do not know who Conor will fight now that Dos Anjos is unable to go. There are two ways the replacement search for McGregor’s next opponent could go.

  1. Any and everyone is blowing up Dana White’s phone right now begging for the shot to take out the cocky, slick talking champ.

  2. Nobody wants to take the fight on such short notice and become the next guy to get KO’ed by Conor.

If you recall, this is becoming a pattern for McGregor, as the last Brazilian champ he fought also pulled out of the fight the first time around.

Although this puts on hold whether the Featherweight champ McGregor will be able to move up another weight class and win the title, it still set us up for another interesting fight. Here’s a shortlist of guys who deserve and would love to get a shot at McGregor while he waits for Dos Anjos to get healthy.

  • Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone

  • Nate Diaz

  • Frankie Edgar

You cannot go wrong with any of these fights and I’m sure the UFC is scrambling to make one of them happen. All of the guys above are typically game for any fight that comes there way and would kill for the opportunity to dethrone Conor. Cowboy just had a victory this past Saturday but since when has that ever slowed him down. Diaz vs McGregor would be a shit talking of EPIC proportions and Frankie you can argue deserves a shot at Conor more then anybody else.

For Rafael Dos Anjos, the next step is to get healthy. Once he is back to 100%, Dos Anjos vs McGregor will be back on the schedule one again.

Well ladies and gentlemen, things just got interesting.
